CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – The visit of Brig. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central in Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao marked the end of ‘Rido’ between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) according to MILF Chairman Al-Haj Murad Ibrahim.
The recent visit of Brig. Gen. Sobejana last Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Camp Darapanan, the hallowed ground and headquarters of MILF, brought a signal of peace to both parties. The Commander was joined in full force by his Brigade and Battalion Commanders, and the General, Personal, Special and Technical staff of 6th Infantry Division.
“This is the first time that the entire command of 6th ID visited the camp of MILF and this is a very strong signal for peace,” said Murad.
“The armed struggle between the AFP and the MILF started way back in 1972 during the height of Moro secessionist movement.”
“At the time we started war in 1972, we declare you as our enemy and you declare us your enemy,” Murad said.
“Now we are partners, we are no longer adversaries, and I believe that this partnership will last until we achieve our aspiration for having a peace, progress, prosperity in this part of the Philippines.”
“Your visit here headed by your good Commander, Brigadier General Sobejana, who speaks louder than voice, that the rido is over”. Meaning the rude between the BIAF and the AFP is now over” Murad added.
“At the end of the tunnel, we will be partners in building our community, in building our people, and working together for the welfare of our people,” he said.
Before Murad ended his message, he said that he felt proud that they stand in triumph as the fruit of their struggles will not only be enjoyed by them, but by everybody.
Brig. Gen. Sobejana said that their visit to Darapanan gave them the opportunity to listen the future plans, programs and activities of the MILF following the approval of the Bansamoro Organic Law.
“We have similar objective, which is peace and progress for our people,” the Commander said.
“We cannot get enough in war, but in talking, we can get more than we expect and we are here in full support and cooperation with all your noble intention and undertakings”, Brig. Gen. Sobejana added.
