CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – Five local government units of Maguindanao handed-over 35 loose firearms to 40th Infantry Battalion in a ceremony held at its Headquarters in Brgy Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao.
The firearms came from the municipalities of Radjah Buayan, Sultan sa Barongis, Shariff Aguak, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Mamasapano as part of the effort of the military in firearms reductions program of the government.
The ceremony was witnessed by 6th Infantry Division Commander Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana and Rajah Buayan Mayor Zamzamin L. Ampatuan.
The firearms surrendered were 6 Garrand rifles, 8 M14 rifles, 1 M16 rifle, 1 M79 rifle, 1 rocket propelled greanade, 1K3, one 60m mortar, 8 shotguns, 5 Barretts, 2 KG9, and 1 Grease.
“To prevent terrorism in Maguindanao, we need to work together to address the security challenges in the region.” Brig. Gen. Sobejana said.
“It is really a challenge for us to fight terrorism as 70% is needed to be addressed by the civil government while 30% will be addressed by the military if the people will resort to become armed,” the Commander added.
To date, 1,948 total loose firearms were surrendered to 6th Infantry Division.
