CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – Three feuding clans from the municipality of Buldon in Maguindanao involving 6 Iranun families peacefully ended their rifts here yesterday noontime, 17 May 2017 in Islamic religious rites and signing of peace pact.
The settlement of clan wars or “rido” between Abo and Mamalakat, Taaral and Mamaco, and Pacasma and Wadia came after the efforts of Buldon Mayor Abolais Manalao, 37th Infantry Battalion and 603rd Infantry Brigade under Col Jesus B Sarsagat of convincing the warring families to settle amicably.
Family leaders and members of the 6 clans with an average of 15 years of conflict exchanged handshakes and hugs after swearing to the Holy Quran and signing of peace agreements before Maguindanao Governor Esmael “toto” Mangudadatu and 6ID Commander Major General Arnel B Dela Vega and other local and military officials as witnesses.
The conflicts involving Abo and Mamalakat and Taaral and Mamaco started from a land dispute while Pacasma and Wadia was triggered by personal issues.
Mayor Manalao thanked Governor Mangudadatu for his initiative to settle the rido in 6ID Headquarters that provided a neutral venue to every feuding family.
“Do not bring back the past animosities to prevent the conflict to escalate,” Major General Dela Vega emphasized. He also said that the future generations of the warring clans will be more affected if the conflict will be remained unresolved.
Governor Mangudadatu lauded the efforts of the local government of Buldon and the military officials to bring the 3 warring families to settlement.
The families of the warring clans surrendered their firearms including one M14 rifle, one M16 rifle, two Garand rifles, one homemade Barret sniper’s rifle, and one 12-gauge shot gun to finally put an end to their conflicts. Thus, they will be given a livestock in exchanged of their surrendered firearms as part of the livelihood program of the Department of Agriculture of Maguindanao.
