COTABATO CITY- The Joint Task Force Central 1st Muslim Religious Summit for Peace and Security successfully culminated last Friday, May 19, at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, ORC, Cotabato City with the City Mayor of Cotabato City, Mayor Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi as the Guest Speaker.


The summit was attended by more than 400 religious leaders from the provinces of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat,North Cotabato and Lanao del sur, and from the city of cotabato. It was also attended by officers of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division Philippine Army headed by Mgen Arnel v Dela Vega who is also the concurrent commander of the Joint Task Force Central.

The Philippine National Police, on the other hand, is led by PSSup AgustinTello, the PNP Provincial Director of Maguindanao, who represented the pro armm director pcsup theodore sindac. The PNP contingent also came from the four provinces and some coming from Region 12.

The objective of summit, as explained by LTC Gerry Besana, Commanding Officer of the 6th Civil-Military Operations Battalion is to get the consensus and recommendations of the religious leaders on how to address violent extremism, criminality and the problem on illegal drugs besetting their communities.

On his message, MGen dela vega expressed his gratitude to the religious leaders and emphasized his optimism that the activity signals the start of better relationship between the religious sector and the military towards a long ang lasting peace and security in this part of the country.

Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi on her part, emphasized the role of religious leaders in attaining real peace and security saying that they, the religious leaders, play a key role in molding the community in the path of Islam as a way of life.

The successful conduct of the summit is also attributed to the support of the local chief executives of the provinces, municipalities and Cotabato City. The JTF central's partner in organizing the activity is the organization of the Tamasul Philippines that advocates real interpretation of the Quran with respect to jihad, terorism, role or religious leaders and Islam as a way of life.

Banking on the success of the activity, the local government units of north cotabato represented by board member Kelie Antao, Al Haj and Mayor Sayadi, pledge to further support the initiative of JTF central by organizing similar event for the religious leaders. The them for the summit is "harmony and unity amidst diversity towards peace, security, development and prosperity.
